Method

A feasibility study was undertaken on the construction of hydropower plants on the Kangera River in Uganda‘s Kikagati region. This river forms the border between Uganda and Tanzania.

TRIGIS supported the project with an on-site visit, topographical surveys, and the assessment of streets and bridges with respect to suitability as future construction roads.

For the survey of control points and the topography, a Trimble AgGPS 542 base rover unit was used.

OmniSTAR was used as a correction signal. OmniSTAR is a globally functioning correction signal for real time RTK surveys.

Method

  • High-precision static GPS survey of the base station at higher order control points
  • RTK survey for the recording of detailed topography
  • High-precision supplement of the reference network (position+height)
  • Survey of control points for the orientation of satellite images
  • Determination of water levels, plotting of structures and open canals
  • Photo documentation of streets and bridges for assessment purposes with respect to suitability as construction roads
